SHAHTAJ KHAN, AMFT
THERAPIST | AMFT #133851
Hi, I'm Shahtaj!
I provide therapeutic services that prioritize spirituality, a decolonized approach, and addressing generational trauma. My goal is to empower individuals by helping them tap into their inner strengths and resilience. As a first-generation immigrant and a non-binary individual, I understand the complexities faced by people with multiple identities, which fuels my commitment to creating a safe and affirming space for healing and growth.
In my practice, I specialize in supporting individuals who have experienced religious or spiritual trauma, survivors of various forms of violence and abuse (including domestic, sexual, emotional, and mental), individuals dealing with depression and anxiety, as well as queer and heterosexual couples in monogamous, polyamorous, or other non-monogamous relationships. I provide a non-judgmental and compassionate environment where clients can explore their unique experiences within the context of their culture, religion, and personal identity.
I incorporate a decolonized approach that acknowledges and challenges the harmful impacts of colonization on individuals' mental well-being. By centering the experiences and perspectives of marginalized communities, I aim to promote healing and empowerment. Additionally, I emphasize addressing generational trauma, recognizing how historical and systemic factors contribute to present-day struggles.
Spirituality plays a significant role in my therapeutic approach. I integrate spiritual tools such as astrology, tarot, and oracle cards, allowing clients to explore their spiritual beliefs and experiences as part of the healing process. Mindfulness and somatic work are also utilized as trauma-informed techniques to support clients in reconnecting with their bodies and promoting holistic well-being.
To provide comprehensive care, I integrate evidence-based and alternative therapeutic modalities. These include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and psychodynamic therapy. By tailoring these approaches to individual needs, we develop personalized strategies and goals for healing, growth, and overall well-being.
My therapeutic practice is committed to honoring and affirming diverse identities, including those within the LGBTQ+ community. I create a supportive therapeutic space where individuals can explore issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and the intersections of their identities.
I am honored to accompany you on your journey towards healing and finding strength within your own story, incorporating spirituality, a decolonized approach, and addressing generational trauma.
