DINA ABDELAAL, AMFT
THERAPIST | AMFT #145946
Hi I'm Dina,
I am an Associate Marriage in Family Therapist and I believe the therapeutic space is an important and healing space where clients can explore different perspectives and work towards achieving their goals and objectives. I offer a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic space for clients to share and process difficult experiences and emotions. Many of us did not grow up with the language or tools to talk about emotions and trauma and so therapy is a space where we can learn to deal with things in a healthier manner and hopefully break generational cycles. In addition, I believe in meeting clients where they are at, because they are the experts on their own lives and experiences.
I went to undergrad at Occidental College and received my BA in Sociology. A few years later I attended graduate school at Pacific Oaks College where I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy, with a specialization in trauma. One of the most important aspects of working with trauma is learning how to have compassion and patience for oneself and something I emphasize to all clients. Additionally, I make a concerted effort to understand a client’s cultural background to understand all intersecting identities.
My theoretical approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, person-centered counseling, and trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I also place great emphasis on repairing the mind-body connection that can often happen as a result of trauma, as our bodies store bottled up emotions and experiences. I have also worked extensively with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Therefore, I am passionate and dedicated about helping clients on their healing journey as they work towards the life they wish to have.
Outside of being a therapist, I love to dance, spend time with my dogs, my family and friends, and I love to cook, bake and read as many novels as I can get my hands on.
